Kylie's favorite iPhone 3GS features

on Friday, April 30, 2010

Last week, I spent precious Enterprise dollars on an iPhone, that's right I jumped on that Apple wagon!

Despite Apple's gigantic ego and monopoly within the market, I appreciate the products they make. Lord knows when their secret fortress has a hole poked in it by a few too many German beers the world turns upside down. But that's a rant for another blog...

The iPhone is the first high tech phone I have owned and I must say, it was worth every penny. I wanted to share my personal, favorite things about the 16g iPhone 3GS.

~First of all, in a text, the 3GS knows to capitolize the "K" in Kylie, the "P" in iPhone, and "San Fran." It automatically corrects my poor comma usage, lazy grammar, and sloppy spelling as I blind-text under my work desk. But the best thing about texting on an iPhone is that you select the person you want to message with BEFORE texting which means your whole conversation is available to you while eliminating the possibility of sending those awful OOPS texts (wrong recipient).

~My iPhone is a 16 gig so I put 1200 of my favorite songs on it which allows me to listen to music but also hear when calls or texts arrive. I can search by song, artist, or genre, just like an iPod, and I can add content, such as the witty Dan Savage's podcast, without plugging it into a computer. My favorite little feature about this music player is that you can access the music by simply pressing the iPhone button twice. The music player and current song will pop up on the screen without making you unlock the phone and go into the iPod app. So cool!

~Other than that there are a few other small features that I want to appreciate before looking at apps. The ability to send and receive picture messages (my last phone wouldn't do that), choosing which voice message I want to listen to and deleting the ones I don't, and the instant "silence" switch on the side of the phone.

I have also linked my four e-mail addresses to the "mail" app which tells me when I receive an e-mail and to which account. And finally, it CALLS people, but the calls are....meh.

MY Favorite Applications:

~My Fitness Pal: This app takes your current body weight, target body weight, and exercise level to calculate how many calories you are allotted in a day in order to reach your target weight. On top of that, the app will show you many calories your meals are once you punch in your order. It adds calories for any exercise you do as well.

~Space Images: Photos zapped to your phone directly from NASA!
Check out these gems:

~Words With Friends: A puny version of Scrabble that let's you play with a friend! Username: MarieSleeps

~iFlash: This app allows you to make flashcards which is a great tool for studying for exams, and it goes everywhere with you!

~KaleidoVid: A camera of kaleidovision! Point it at anything for a kaleidoscope version that you can take a photo of and send anywhere. This is mindless entertainment at it's FINEST.

Photo: my waterbottle!

~nonGMO: Search by product, brand, or retailer for food that has NOT been genetically modified.

~iRecycle: Asks you what you want to recycle and tells you where you can recycle it in your area.

~ScreenClean: When I need a smile all I have to do is click on ScreenClean, make a selection, and let the app do the rest:
